Fire Barrier

Fire barrier is a vertical or horizontal assembly of materials that are deigned to restrict the spread of fire. It is used as fire safety equipment which is quite effective. Fire barrier can also be defined as they are a kind of fire retardants that are organic and non-toxic. These fire barriers can be used to put in the laundry or on any other materials to make them fire retardant. Fire barrier comes in three formulas such as: Natural materials such as cotton, wool and silk, synthetic fabrics and materials and wood and paper. The best part about them is that they are totally organic and safe, can be applied to anything that is porous including interior walls, carpets, furniture, curtains etc. Fire barrier is a 5th generation fire retardant product. It can be sprayed on, brushed on, rolled on or by soaking the material.

It can be applied in two levels of conditioning. One is the non-durable condition and the other one is the semi-durable condition. When the fire barrier is applied in non-durable condition then in this condition it will last till it comes in contact with the complete washing process whereas in semi-durable condition it is applied and dried with the aid of heat and it lasts longer than the non-durable condition. It can be applied on carpets but in order for it to be effective, it must be absorbed by the carpet. It can also be applied to the unfinished wood. Depending upon the object on which it is applied it works differently. It works in concert with water saturation and dispersion to blend with the polymer ingredients and attaches itself around that particular object.

There is another type of fire barrier that is of urethane foam which is regarded as an excellent fire barrier when used on exterior of a building. Urethane requires a lot of heat to keep burning. Where the heat can radiate to the atmosphere, the urethane makes a superior fire barrier. As urethane itself is virtually non-combustible therefore the Urethane foam is not much of a fire hazard while being sprayed.

As with the advancements in fire protection techniques, fire barrier is an upcoming technology that is adopted in almost all the industries, offices and even at newly constructed buildings. It is a kind of thick sheet which is coated with non-hazardous, non-combustible pyrotite material. This material has the extraordinary capability: it releases water when exposed to the heat of fire. This water cools the fire and curtails its development and spread. These fire barriers are tested under various conditions and before releasing it into the market it is checked for its durability and safety.
