There are many fire retardant or fire protection equipments but a fire blanket offers a convenient safety solution in case of fire as it may save not only your home and workplace but also can save your life which is above all. It is basically a safety device which is designed to extinguish small incipient or can say is used to extinguish starting fires. A fire blanket is made up of woven fiber glass with a textured surface and all its edges are covered with a fireproof thread due to which it is not able to catch fire.
These fire safety equipments especially fire blankets are available in many different sizes from a small 3 foot x 3 foot (1 meter x 1 meter) square up to the size of large bedding blankets. Generally the very basic size which is available most commonly is 1.2m x 1.8m as it is suitable for all types of fires. These blankets which are conforming to the British standard BS EN 1869:1997 are suitable for use in the home. For the ones which are being kept at home are particularly useful for smothering fat pan fires or for wrapping around a person whose clothing is on fire. The testing of these fire blankets is very strongly done as they have been tested to 900 degrees Celsius and were still incombustible. These types of fire safety equipments are very simple and easy to use as they can be released and cover the flame in less than five seconds. No fire safety equipment can be simpler than this.
As far as using of a fire blanket is concerned, various precautions are to be taken and all the instructions should be well known to the person using it. While using this type of fire retardant equipment, it is important to protect the hands. It should be laid so that it can, in one smooth motion, be pulled to cover it to the greatest extent possible. This allows for the easy smothering of the flames. A person who is using a fire blanket for the first time should read the instructions carefully and then should follow them step by step in order to make it effective to the greatest possible extent.
